In Part 1 we argued that search engines reward visibility, not capability. In Part 2 we named five French custom motor makers that procurement teams find through referrals and trade shows, not search. Part 3 stays in France and moves to the part that sits next to every motor: the drive, which in a drone is the electronic speed controller, or ESC. For drone and defense programs, ESCs and motor controllers are among the hardest parts to source.
So we tested the thesis directly. We typed seven searches a buyer might use to find an ESC or motor controller manufacturer into Google, in English and French, and described the same need once in Procureezy. The five French makers below design their own drives and publish their ratings. None of them appeared for the plain English searches a buyer outside France is most likely to type.

01 Anemos Technologies: a sovereign drone ESC made in Saint-Étienne
Founded: 2015
Based in: Saint-Étienne, Loire
Builds: Professional drones and the ESC souverain speed controller
Credentials: Designed and assembled in France · 2S–12S, 10–150 A · Native CAN bus
Founded by engineer Philippe Crochat, Anemos Technologies builds its own drones and sells the electronic speed controller inside them to other drone makers. The ESC souverain covers 2S to 12S packs and 10 to 150 A, designed by in-house engineers and assembled in France, with the full component list available under NDA. It ranks second on Google for “fabricant ESC drone France”. In English, it is absent from every search we ran.
02 SEF Power: EN 9100 power electronics and motor control near Paris
Founded: 1993 (as SEF Industrie)
Based in: Fontenay-Trésigny, Seine-et-Marne
Builds: Power converters, inverters, brushless motor controllers, electronics assembly
Credentials: EN 9100 · ISO 9001 · MIL-STD-461 · MIL-STD-1275
SEF Power designs defense power electronics, as well as rail and aerospace units, from a single site southeast of Paris with about 30 people. Its range runs from DC-DC converters to high-voltage supplies up to 25 kV, and includes 500 W and 1,000 W brushless motor controllers with CAN communication. It also assembles and tests electronics for other manufacturers. Google shows it only for a long French query that names the EN 9100 standard.
03 Serad: brushless servo drives from Loire-Atlantique
Founded: 1983
Based in: Teillé, Loire-Atlantique
Builds: Brushless servo drives, servomotors, motion controllers, electric actuators
Credentials: SMD drives up to 8.8 kW, SIL3 · IMD drives up to 22 kW · EtherCAT member since 2004
Serad has specialised in motion control since 1983 and designs its own brushless servo drives, alongside servomotors, axis controllers and electric actuators. Its SMD drives reach 8.8 kW with SIL3 safety, and its IMD range 22 kW, with EtherCAT and CANopen. The company reinvests 17% of revenue in R&D and lists defense and security, and logistics and AGVs, among its markets. It did not appear in any of our seven Google searches.
04 XAP Technology: SiC inverters and cargo drones near Nîmes
Founded: 1996
Based in: Calvisson, Gard
Builds: SiC inverters, electric motors, solid-state power distribution, SIRIUS cargo drones
Credentials: 400–800 V liquid-cooled SiC inverters · 300+ products designed · Motorsport roots with Renault Sport
XAP Technology started in 1996 building electronics for motorsport, with technical support from Renault Sport, and now designs electric powertrains for land, sea and air. It designs and builds liquid-cooled SiC inverters for 400 V to 800 V systems, solid-state power distribution boxes, and its own SIRIUS 20 and SIRIUS 50 cargo drones. Google shows XAP for searches that use its name. None of our seven category searches found it.
05 SERMAT: brushless motors and military drives from Nanterre
Founded: 1976
Based in: Nanterre, Hauts-de-Seine, with sites in Chabris and Castanet-Tolosan
Builds: Custom electric motors, actuators, generators and their drive electronics
Credentials: Military-grade drive, 100 A peak · Brushless main generator on the Leclerc tank · About 200 employees
SERMAT has designed and built electric motors and electromechanical systems for aerospace, defense, rail and nuclear since 1976, along with the electronics that drive them. Its range includes brushless drives with integrated position and speed control, a 270 V brushless motor for aviation, and a military-grade drive for a brushless hoist motor at 100 A peak. It also supplies the brushless main generator on the Leclerc tank. In our seven searches, it surfaced once, through a motor page, for a long French query naming EN 9100.
One pattern
167 years of combined track record
Five makers and 167 combined years, from a Nanterre motor works founded in 1976 to a 2015 drone start-up. Each builds a part French drone and defense programs are short of, and each is found only by buyers who already know its name, its language or its vocabulary.
If you need a French ESC or motor controller manufacturer, Procureezy’s manufacturer index finds them for you: describe the need once, and get the makers, not the resellers.
